Kea’s Ark was a three-story wooden boat that rose above Newark, NJ. The goal was to complete and then float the ark onto the Passaic River but after a years long battle with the City of Newark and local developers the Ark was eventually dismantled. I was tasked by Gallery Aferro to produce a newspaper article to share her story.

Background
Gathering content and historical articles to understand the story I began the editorial layout telling the story of Kea’s battle to keep the Ark. Working with Gallery Aferro and the printer we iterated on our ideas and sourced the proper newsprint. Our goal was to transport the visitors to this particular time and place in Newark’s history.
Conclusion
The gallery installed a shelf beneath a payphone where visitors could listen to an oral history as they paged through Kea’s story and timeline. In addition to the info, the newspaper folds out into a poster with the event details. This along with with an exhibition of more than 30 handmade stained glass windows, historical artifacts, images, and texts helped to create an immersive experience.
